Summary of Seymour M. Hersh's The Killing of Osama Bin Laden

#1 The White House still maintains that the mission was an all-American affair, and that the senior generals of Pakistan’s army and Inter-Services Intelligence agency were not informed of the raid in advance. This is false.

#2 The US had a source inside Pakistan who told them about bin Laden’s hideout. The fear was that if the existence of the source was made public, the Pakistanis would move bin Laden to another location. The CIA checked out the quality of the informant’s information.

#3 The Americans were able to get the Pakistanis to agree to the raid by threatening to reveal the fact that they had bin Laden in their custody. The Pakistanis wanted to continue receiving American aid, so they agreed.

#4 Despite their constant public feuding, American and Pakistani military and intelligence services have worked together closely for decades on counterterrorism in South Asia.
