Global villager Shekhar Phatak Unlike most aspirants of IIT who make it their singular aim of life, Shekhar sailed into IIT Powai with ease. He went to Germany for post graduation with a scholarship crossing many a hurdles. His stay there helped him become top level German translator later in life. Love of languages, inquisitive and sharp mind led him to master many foreign languages along with Astronomy and Photography. Shekhar ran “ coaching classes with a difference “ for 15 years. He inculcated values and zest for learning in his pupils by novel methods and activities. To reconnect to his roots , he took a bold step of moving to a village near Devrukh in Konkan region for farming in his fifties. He realised in the initial years that organic farming by itself cannot become a sustainable economic model for small farmers away from urban areas. He is pursuing to find new and better ways of value addition to organically grown produce with global outlook. Our best wishes to him for his trail blazing quest.
