The novels really explain the buts and bolts of things the shows don't have time or space to get into. If your coming from the show or anime the book really gives a lot more detail of what Rudy thinks and feels when he's going through things. Also doesn't pull any punches about what a scum bag he was in his old life. Cliff Kurt does an amazing job with these voices, really get lost in the story hes so seamless going from character to character, and the way he powers through the things Rudy thinks, Rudy is still pretty cringe, thats why he's relatable.
