Howard Zinn, like Noam Chomsky, enjoys a best–seller size market of readers who are always eager for new books by him. Designed as a “recession buster” in size and price point, The Bomb offers Zinn fans and general readers two short, classic texts that examine the political, historical, and ethical significance of two major events in U.S. military history, the aerial bombing of Royan, France, and the atomic bombing of Hiroshima. In so far as Zinn participated in the bombing of Royan and visited Hiroshima years after the bombing, The Bomb conveys Zinn’s deep personal reflections on these events, the profound influence they had in transforming him from an order-taking combat soldier to one of the greatest living anti-authoritarian, anti-war historians alive today. The Bomb’s publication date will be pegged for the 65th anniversary of the bombing of Hiroshima, August 6, 2009. Our plan is to launch the book a month earlier with a large Boston-area event with Amy Goodman that will be used in video/ audio format for nationwide fundraising in August. Vast potential for A-list media in August and for op-eds. We will shoot for a host of national media, including CSPAN, Oprah, Bill Moyers, Charlie Rose, Fresh Air, All Things Considered, CSPAN, Colbert. Author Tour: One large public event in July, most likely Boston, most likely a Democracy Now fundraiser with Amy Goodman Extensive ongoing touring at universities, conferences and bookstores
