Based on real cases. In 1998, a 16-year-old girl was found murdered near the The Black Water lake in the small town of Weverlo. The case was never solved. Now, in 2020, the case is reopened as modern techniques allow research based on genetic genealogy. Journalist Loes, best friend of the victim, returns home to write about her hometown now that such a dark part of their history is being reopened. She wants to find out what happened to Maaike, while dealing with her feelings about the past as well. Together with Maaike’s stepbrother Chris, who used to be the group’s outcast, she starts investigating the case. This takes them deeper into the story, until Loes makes a shocking discovery and comes face-to-face with her friend’s killer.
