Army doctor John Watson has been wounded in the war in Afghanistan. He moves back home to London, and due to his strained finances, he seeks a residence to share with someone. It ends up being at 221B Baker Street, along with Sherlock Holmes, an eccentric detective. When a man is found dead in an uninhabited house on the outskirts of London, inspectors Lestrade and Gregson find no other recourse than to ask Sherlock Holmes for help. The crime scene is a mystery in itself: the body has no visible injuries, but the place is full of blood, and someone has written »Revenge« on the wall. Holmes has reason to use his famous powers of observation and draw conclusions that few others would arrive at. However, the case continues to take unexpected turns. A Study in Scarlet is the first of Arthur Conan Doyle’s novels about Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson. It was first published in the English magazine Beeton’s Christmas Annual in 1887.
