Take your German to the next level with Coffee Break German Advanced. Join native speaker Andrea and learner Mark as they guide you through the intricacies of the language. This podcast is aimed at learners working at B1/B2 level and we'll be covering grammatical structures and topics appropriate to this level. In each episode Mark and Andrea will discuss a language point, and then you'll listen to a dialogue which features examples of the language point, helping you consolidate what you've learned.

In this episode, the twins are preoccupied with preparations for their respective future studies; Lucie has even already found friends and met her future roommate online on the forum for first-years. After enjoying a delicious meal with their family to celebrate Marian and Lucie's exam results, they sit down with their father Michael to further discuss preparations for moving to California. In this episode, among other things, you can observe how the infinitive is used in subordinate clauses (with and without “um”) and review the use of reflexive verbs. In this episode of Coffee Break German Mark and Andrea are continuing to focus on the subjunctive, more specifically they are discussing how to make hypothetical statements, like conditionals and wishes. We'll learn to use the subjunctive with wenn/falls, with inversion, and take a look at the subjunctive in the past to express impossible conditionals and wishes. As usual, we hear some examples in context by listening to a dialogue of a family debating their next holiday!

Welcome back to another episode of Coffee Break German Season 3! In this episode we are continuing our learning of the subjunctive. We review what we already know and then go on to learn how to make suggestions and give advice in German. Our dialogue for this episode is based on a letter to an agony aunt from a concerned mother, this will give you the opportunity to hear plenty of examples of the subjunctive in context. As always listen out for some interesting vocabulary such as: Rat (m), hart mit and vorschlagen.
