The Supreme Court rejected a review plea filed by 21 opposition parties seeking an increase in random matching of VVPAT slips with EVMs in the ongoing elections. The Court had directed the Election Commission to increase random matching of VVPAT slips with EVMs from one to five polling booths per assembly segment, previously also on 8th April .
Over 200 teachers from Delhi University issued a signed statement condemning remarks Prime Minister Modi made about late Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi. Modi, in a rally on 4 May had called Gandhi Brashthachari no.1. The statement from Delhi University called Modi's remarks derogatory and untrue.
Speaking of the BJP and controversial remarks, Union Minister and BJP candidate, Giriraj Singh surrendered before a local court in Begusarai over a violation of the model code of conduct. Singh was charged for making controversial remarks against the Muslim community at an election rally in Bihar. He has been granted bail.
The Election Commission asked NITI Ayog for a response to the Congress' claims made that the BJP had misused the think-tank to collect information in advance about places where the Prime Minister was set to campaign.
And your last update for the day, a polling officer died while 24 others, including security personnel, were injured when their vehicle overturned in Amethi. The accident took place when they were on way to deposit EVM machines after polling on 6 May.
