"Mexican Gothic" by Silvia Moreno-Garcia follows Noemí Taboada as she travels to High Place, a mansion in the Mexican countryside, after receiving a disturbing letter from her newlywed cousin, Catalina. Catalina claims her husband is poisoning her and the house is filled with malevolent forces.

The house is inhabited by the Doyle family, who are menacing and secretive. As Noemí digs deeper, she uncovers a dark history of madness, eugenics, and a mysterious illness. She experiences disturbing dreams and a growing sense of dread. Noemí races against time to save Catalina from the clutches of High Place and its inhabitants.
