ABOUT THE ORIGINAL BOOK
The Queen of the Tearling by Erika Johansen follows the journey of Kelsea Raleigh Glynn, who is the seventh Queen of the Tearling. Raised in isolation by Carlin and Barty, Kelsea learns history, languages, and the importance of her future role. She returns to the Keep at nineteen years old to take her rightful place on the throne and is immediately confronted with the corruption that has taken hold in the kingdom.
Kelsea battles with her identity and legacy as she attempts to save her people from a terrible fate. The novel explores themes of power, justice, and the significance of knowledge and education, as Kelsea tries to lead her kingdom. She is aided by loyal people such as the Mace and struggles to determine whom she can trust. The narrative also delves into the dark history of the Tearling, revealing the horrors of serfdom and the lottery, and challenging Kelsea to make difficult decisions.
