"Riders of the Purple Sage" is about three men fighting against local Mormons. The book also delves into the lives of Mormon women who are resisting the religious expectations imposed on them. Lassiter, a gunslinger dressed in black, comes to the aid of Jane Withersteen, a rancher, in a remote Utah town. He prevents her from being forced to marry a Mormon elder against her wishes. Lassiter's journey takes a turn when he uncovers a hidden grave on Jane's property. Author Zane Grey skillfully combines action, adventure, conflict, violence, emotion, and romance in this novel.
