Samuel Richardson was an English novelist who expanded the dramatic possibilities of the novel by his invention and use of the epistolary novel form. Research has shown that Richardson had a distinct influence on Jane Austen, she utilized the epistolary style that Richardson conceived in many of her novels, most famously Pride and Prejudice and Mansfield Park.
