Learning About Washington County 4-H with Cassie & Jennifer Jerich

Man, I've been waiting since my sophomore year of high school to practice my German and today's my day!!! 😁

On this week's episode, I check in with Thecla Harris, the Director of Development at Habitat for Humanity of Washington and Dodge Counties. First, we discuss the amazing news about Habitat for Humanity's new building at the old Skate Country in Barton. Then we discuss all of the details about West Bend GERMANfest, an event that supports Habitat for Humanity of Washington and Dodge Counties. 

GERMANfest takes place Thursday, August 26 through Sunday, August 29, 2021 in Downtown West Bend. There is a ton of music, beer, activities, beer, a Sheepshead tournament, beer... you get the idea!

Habitat for Humanity's West Bend GERMANfest with Thecla Harris

This week's show is a great example of why I'm doing this and what I've missed since I left radio. On this episode, I speak with Shannon Siebert of Washington County Foster Closet to talk about her organization and the importance of supporting children in foster care—as well as foster families—in Washington County, Wisconsin. 

The Washington County Foster Closet supports our area children by providing clothing and supplies to foster families. Imagine getting a call that three teen children are going to be placed with your family in the next half hour! Being prepared for all ages, sizes, and genders of children would be impossible as a foster family, and the Washington County Foster Closet serves as a resource to the foster families in our area with clothing, supplies, and much needed support. 

This is one of those episodes that makes you think and gets you wondering how you can do more for those who are in need in our community, and I truly thank Shannon Siebert and Koa Dautermann for all they do in Washington County.

Washington County Foster Closet w/Shannon Siebert & Koa Dautermann

My in-laws came down for a "Beer Garden and Bibinger's" Friday afternoon. Shanna and I had such a great time with her family. We started at Homestead Hollow Park, a Washington County Park in Germantown. After some great beer from 1840 Brewing Company and some fun live music, we went to Bibinger's Restaurant for a Friday night fish fry. 

Shanna joins me this week to recount the evening.

This year marks the 20th anniversary of the terrorist attacks on the United States. Since 2018, I've been involved with helping to build the Wisconsin 9/11 Memorial and Education Center in Kewaskum, Wis. On this week's episode, Dustin Melzark, an architect and construction manager for Lakeside Development, joins me to discuss all of the symbolism of the Memorial. There are a ton of easter eggs built within the Memorial that you are probably unaware of.

Keith Novotny and I met when I was first working at 92.5 WBWI and he was doing what he's been doing his whole life—working at Cousins Subs. He's been working there for 25 years now, and has been an owner of the Cousins locations on Paradise Drive in West Bend and Fond du Lac Avenue in Kewaskum for 20 years. 

On this week's episode, Keith joins me to talk about why he started working at Cousins, how he eventually became a franchise owner, and how he puts his "never say 'no'" philosophy to work in our community.
