Kliv in i en oändlig värld av stories
Wise and Otherwise is a Christian fiction novel by American author Isabella M. Alden under the pen name "Pansy" and is the fourth novel in her “Ester Ried” series. Heartwarming stories of faith and love set in the late 1800s and early 1900s. Sequel to The King’s Daughter.
Young Abbie Ried Sayles and her dear friend, Dell Bronson expected life in turn-of-the-century Newton to be sweet and simple.
In Wise and Otherwise we meet the immature Mr. Tresevant (from "The King's Daughter") who comes to Newton with his spoiled wife to be the new pastor of the church attended by Dr. and Mrs. Douglass, Mr. and Mrs. Sayles, and Mr. and Mrs. Tyndall (from "Ester Ried" and "Julia Ried"), boarding with Jerome and Abbie Sayles.
But life can be complicated in a social system where privileged ladies were expected to socialize during the week only with other privileged ladies, then worship in the same place as their hired helps on Sundays...
Wise and Otherwise was first published in 1873. Previous book in the series: The King’s Daughter. Next book in the series: Ester Ried Yet Speaking. Audiobook read by Tricia G, running time 8 hours, 7 min. Unabridged full version.
Isabella Macdonald Alden (1841 - 1945) was an American author of Christian fiction publishing her novels under her pen name “Pansy”. Highly influenced by her Christian beliefs, much of Alden's work was explicitly moral and didactic, and often found its way into Sunday School libraries. It was also immensely popular, in the late 19th and early 20th centuries; in 1900, sales were estimated at around 100,000 copies annually.
