Vishnupad Temple, Gaya
The holy city of Gaya, named after the demon “Gayasur'' hosts the tranquil and spiritual Vishnupad Temple. According to the legends, Gayasur was a tyrant who used to enjoy tormenting the faithful, the sages, and dharmatmas. To curb the menace of this demonic entity and to rescue his followers from the atrocities of the wicked Gayasur, Bhagwan Vishnu chalked out a plan. He put his foot on Gayasur’s head and plunged him into the abyss. To commemorate the incident, the holy footprint of Bhagwan Vishnu decorated with Sankh, Chakra, Gada, and Padma have been worshipped there since then.
While in Patal Lok Gayasur craved for food, thus letting Bhagwan Vishnu setup Gaya as his adobe for Pindaan. Bhagwan Vishnu proclaimed that those who do offer food for the souls of their beloved in Gaya, Gayasur would get a portion of it. It is said that the day Pindaan stops there, a starving and agonized Gayasur will rise from the underground. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
