I COULD HARDLY BELIEVE what I’d just heard.

It didn’t even feel right—like I couldn’t possibly be awake, and this was some strange dream where the walls were going to explode and I was going to wake up in my bed at any second.

And yet, no matter how long I waited, nothing changed.

I was still looking at the Demonic Overlord himself in front of me, an older man who wanted to meet me for what I did to save the Fourth Circle while defeating a rival for his throne.

And he’d just admitted that he was my father?

“I’m sure this comes as a surprise to you, Jake,” he said, turning away from me. He moved in the direction of Sabrina, who was the strawberry blonde that was working as his . . . assistant? I didn’t know how else to describe her right now, but she certainly acted like one from what I’d seen thus far. Interestingly enough, her eyes were locked on me, keeping that cool smirk that seemed to be firmly planted on her face.

“Forgive me, Your Excellency,” interrupted Professor Reeves, who was standing just behind me alongside Obadiah. One look at their faces showed the same shocked reaction that was probably visible on mine. “You are quite sure about this? He’s your son?”

The DO nodded. “Quite sure. I’ve been tracking him for years, wondering what his potential might be. His mother wasn’t gifted with a demonic core, so I questioned whether or not he would inherit it from me. There have been others that didn’t get the gift despite similar circumstances around their births.”

He might as well have followed his revelation with another punch to the gut. Similar circumstances? Did that mean I had half-siblings around the world?

And just how many of them were we talking about here?
