#1 Celibacy is not superior to marriage, and it is not the best state for everyone. It is permitted, but not commanded in the Bible. The purpose of marriage is to avoid fornication, and God does not approve of polygamy or homosexual marriages.
#2 The Corinthian church was having a difficult time with some of its members being saved after they had been married. Paul explained that they were to remain with their unconverted spouses so long as their spouses were willing to live with them.
#3 1 Corinthians 7:10–11 tells us that if our partner leaves the faith, we are not obliged to keep the home. If our partner becomes divorced or commits adultery, we must forgive and seek restoration.
#4 Paul’s counsel to the unmarried is to consider the present circumstances, and be ready to accept the trials that come with marriage. It is impossible for two people to live together without burdens of one kind or another, but there is no need to rush into marriage.
