The Norwegian writer, Knut Hamsun (1859–1952), is often remembered for his contribution to the renewal of the novel, and his modern view of the mind. However, in Norway it his common touch, and his vivid and humorous descriptions local culture that has endeared him to the public. Knut Hamsun was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1920.
