#1 Murder is the most heinous form of criminal homicide. It is defined as the unlawful killing of a human being with malice aforethought. In English, murder is legally defined as the wilful murder of a human being.
#2 In Victorian London, even in a place as crime-ridden as Lambeth Marsh, the sound of gunshots was a rare event. The marsh was a dark and sinister place, but the use of a firearm in the commission of a crime was still considered un-British.
#3 Lambeth is a district in London that was home to the Lambeth Tragedy, which occurred in the early 1900s. It was a place of warehouses, tenant shacks, and miserable rows of ill-built houses.
#4 George and Eliza Merrett were a couple from the countryside who moved to London. They met at a farm show in the Cotswolds, and vowed to leave together for the immeasurable possibilities offered by London. They first lived in north London, and in 1867, they moved to Lambeth.
