ABOUT THE ORIGINAL BOOK
“Mexican Gothic” by Silvia Moreno-Garcia is a gothic horror novel set in 1950s Mexico. It follows Noemí Taboada, a glamorous socialite who is sent to investigate her cousin Catalina’s mysterious illness at a remote mansion called High Place. The mansion is home to the eerie Doyle family, whose dark secrets and disturbing practices soon entrap Noemí. As she uncovers the family’s twisted history involving eugenics, immortality, and supernatural forces, Noemí must navigate a chilling atmosphere of decay, power, and family loyalty. Themes of colonialism, female agency, and identity play a crucial role in this haunting tale.
