ABOUT THE ORIGINAL BOOK
"The Book Thief", by Markus Zusak, is narrated by Death and follows Liesel Meminger, a young girl living in Nazi Germany during World War II. Liesel's life takes a turn when she is forced to part ways with her mother and is sent to live with foster parents, Hans and Rosa Hubermann, on Himmel Street. Liesel finds solace in the stolen books she collects and develops a close bond with her foster father, who teaches her to read. Their lives are further intertwined with the arrival of Max Vandenburg, a Jewish man seeking refuge from persecution.
The story explores themes of love, loss, resilience, and the power of words amidst the horrors of war. Liesel's experiences with her foster family, her friendship with Rudy Steiner, and her secret bond with Max shape her understanding of the world and her place in it. Liesel discovers the power of words to provide comfort, connection, and even resistance in the face of adversity.
