#1 The Advice Trap is when giving advice is your default management style. It’s difficult to not give advice when you’re curious and rushing to give it, and it’s difficult to not give advice when you’re not curious and rushing to give it.
#2 Curiosity helps you identify the real challenge. It is important to stay curious long enough to find out the real challenge, because rushing in to give advice is wasting money and resources, energy and life.
#3 The cost of being in the Advice Trap is the dysfunctional patterns of working that repeat themselves between individuals, within teams, and through organizations. When advice is the dominant management mode, the damage is felt in four places.
#4 The three drivers that motivate people are autonomy, mastery, and purpose. If someone is constantly on the receiving end of advice, their autonomy and mastery will decline, and most likely their purpose too.
