Breaking the Rules of Justice - Part 5

“Isn’t he just the cutest, though?” Stella smushed the sleeping Cerby. The titan’s puppy was sleeping soundly as Stella brushed and snuggled him. “Master, we should find someone to wake up Cerby.”

“We have to go to Melody’s big event.” I straightened my tux.

It had been a week since we had popped the Original Obsidian from her frozen tomb. She called herself Hailey. Obby had taken her aside and started to bring her up to speed gently, but the more Obsidian talked, the more Hailey seemed to close herself off. In the end, she was allowed to roam the lair on her own, but we hadn’t let her leave.

So far, we hadn’t gotten more out of her besides the name of her doctor, a lead that Beatrix ran down with little luck. Whoever Doctor West is or was, they weren’t very discoverable.

Obby was watching Hailey like a hawk. It had to be odd seeing an entirely different version of yourself. But Hailey had the answers Obsidian wanted, and she’d waited a long time to find out more.

Obby had put her clones on a strict ‘don’t die’ protocol. If they did, they might overwhelm Hailey with information from their death.

“Are you excited about starting back at the Bureau of Superheroes tomorrow?” Stella grabbed my tie from the table and bounced over to me, nearly causing her chest to spill out of her dress. The dress was white at the top and faded to black by the bottom. It hugged her like a second skin.

I took the tie rather than let Stella tie it. She’d do her best, but sometimes in her exuberance, Stella tied it a little tight. She was still struggling with her power growing.

“Nervous, actually. We’ve been living under a rock for a week, but even I’ve seen the news.” I did my best to smile.
